The snowbirds are coming!

1. What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
I really enjoyed the image generators and YouTube. I enjoyed learning more about RSS, Blogs, and bookmarking via the internet.

2. How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
I believe the exposure I received from this program has allowed me to get up-to-date on some of the newer internet technologies. Unfortunately, they are changing all the time, so it will be a challenge to be up-to-date continuously.

3. Were there any take-aways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
I was surprised how YouTube is being used in advertising, book talks, and do-it-yourself training videos. It has big potential for libraries.

4. What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?
I think one new concept per week is enough for busy librarians. Some weeks covered more than one site and it was a large amount of information to digest.

5. If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you chose to participate?
Yes.

YouTube and Podcasts

I enjoyed viewing the YouTube videos. I think it would be great if we could offer welcome videos or tours for each library on YouTube and within our LCLS site. We could also post book reviews and book talks on the site via this medium. The Podcasts are interesting, but I'm not sure how we can use them with the library. The Download Library works very well and I've introduced several patrons to it.

How is Britney Fare-ing?

I viewed the list of Web 2.0 award winners. Some of them we've tried already such as Flickr, Bloglines, YouTube, Rollyo, etc. One that I tried that was interest to me and perhaps patrons is 'Farecast'. This site allows you to search multiple travel sites to determine prices of flights, trends of pricing, and recommendations as far as buying now or waiting...

Zoho Presentation

I was very surprised how easy it was to use Zoho and the presentation feature. It was also easy to post it into my blog...

Peanut Butter and Jelly, Quick!

Using the PBWiki and Sandbox was very easy. The editor has a few bugs, but if you're computer savvy you can get the page to format the way the GUI interface is supposed to set it to and you're on you're way. I posted a section about 'Interesting Places' as posted below...

On a recent episode of Build It Bigger TV Show on the Discovery Channel, I saw this amazing city project called The City of Culture.

Video Link to the episode

It would be an interesting place to visit when it is completed in 2012!!! Here's a few links about it...

Yum! Yum! Gotta eat some!

After using Delicious, I found that adding related areas such as audio-video web sites I use for ordering and Accelerated Reader links I've found helpful were easy to upload to the site. I also added the toolbar buttons for Delicious and found it easy to add tagged items. I was also able to bundle a group of tags under Accelerated Reader.

Library 2.0 is somewhat of a futuristic dream for us until we have a good structure in place as to who will update each part of our website and keep it up to date with the many technologies and information we gather. Patrons and librarians alike will find all of this useful, but the maintenance will be challenging!

MySpace and MyInheritance

I like the idea of LCLS having a MySpace for YAs or for each branch YA to have a MySpace that would list events coming up, e-resources, and other related info. Tom's Zodiac sign is Libra. I played the pool game and got a score of 9. It was difficult to aim the pool stick. My late great-great uncle Limburger recently left me $1,000,000 worth of swiss cheese in his will! Here's a portrait of him I found at an image generator blog site...

Rollyo

This was a very interesting site. I can see the practicality of making lists of favorite or related category sites used for business and personal use. Examples for the library would be reference sites, book sites, and libraries.

Free Fallin' for the Library Thing

I created a catalog based on books about Tom Petty. I was surprised at how easy it was!

Image Generator

I enjoy using the image generators. I used one that made a street sign. This sign probably exists somewhere in Green Bay.

Blogged down!

I tried the Bloglines and RSS Feeds. While I use RSS feeds on my Mozilla Browser at home, I found the process of trying to find a useful blogline/RSS feed through the site very difficult and time-consuming. Unfortunately, the internet is a web of links that go from one site to another and esp. with Blogs. The RSS feeds are nice for current news if they automatically 'pull-down' from the toolbar and you can get a quick glimspe of what is going on. However, with Bloglines, you have to read each page, similarly to reading favorites links through a browser anyway.

Flickr

I created a Flickr account using my existing Yahoo account and that was pretty easy. I was able to upload 2 photos and tag them appropriately. It looks like Flickr is an easy-to-use photo sharing site!

7 1/2 habits

Begin with the end in mind - Easiest, because I like to think out things and envision how the results will be

Accept responsibility for your own learning-I'm pretty good at this because I have strong self-discipline

View problems as challenges-I look at things optimistically most times, so I enjoy this step

Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner-Usually I am good at this. When it comes to learning a second language, though, it has been hard for me to have confidence

Create your own learning toolbox-I am pretty good about using the tools that fit with what I'm doing

Use technology to your advantage-I usually use technology to my advantage, but I try not to use it just for technology's sake

Teach/mentor others-I enjoy teaching others and mentoring children, so this comes natural

Play!-Sometimes it is hard for me to play when I'm trying to get something accomplished. Play time seems like a waste of time to me.

Just arrived...

Well, I just arrived here in Southwest Florida. I'm just a Cheesehead in Paradise.
